TV Unmasked

Pt. 1: Introduction

TV Unmasked is a podcast I created from the ground up. The concept was to explore the psychology of TV characters and tropes, psychoanalyzing their traits, motives, backstories, and the underlying themes that drive their behavior. From beloved protagonists to complex villains, each episode aimed to peel back the layers and ask: Why do these characters do what they do?

What made this project so exciting was that I wasn’t just designing for someone else—I was the creator, the designer, and the host all in one. This meant I had full creative control over every detail, but it also meant I had to wear a lot of hats throughout the process.

Pt. 2: Research & Strategy

Before launching the podcast, I spent time researching the landscape of similar shows. I analyzed content structure, episode length, tone, cover art, and marketing strategies used by top-performing psychology- and media-related podcasts. I also looked at trends on platforms like SoundCloud and Spotify to understand what catches a listener’s attention—visually and verbally.

From this research, I formed a plan for what would set TV Unmasked apart: deeply analytical but still digestible episodes, a consistent visual identity, and a clear tone of voice that felt intelligent, introspective, and just a bit nerdy.

Pt. 3: Branding & Design

Once the concept and strategy were finalized, I got to work on the visuals. I designed:

  • The SoundCloud cover art: Something bold, dark, and thematic to reflect the tone of the podcast.
  • The profile header: Cohesive with the cover while adding more visual context to intrigue new listeners.
  • A typographic and color system to ensure consistency across future materials (like episode promos or Instagram posts, if expanded).

Everything was designed to reflect the podcast’s tone—mysterious, psychological, and thoughtful.

Pt. 4: Content Creation & Production

I wrote, recorded, and edited each episode myself. I used Adobe Audition for all audio editing, carefully balancing levels, trimming silences, and adding subtle background sound effects or scoring to enhance mood where needed.

Since this was a solo project, I handled everything from script planning to vocal delivery. I also created summaries and episode descriptions for each upload to help with discoverability and listener clarity.

Pt. 5: Reflection

TV Unmasked was a really personal and fulfilling project for me. It combined so many things I love—psychology, storytelling, media analysis, and design—and challenged me to think like a strategist, designer, and content creator all at once.

It was also one of the first projects where I had full end-to-end ownership, and I walked away with a deeper appreciation for how much work goes into something as “simple” as a podcast. Even though it was a solo project, it pushed me to new creative and technical levels, and it’s something I’d love to revisit and continue in the future.
